We hope readers will join us in sending a get-well-soon message to long-time Skopelos resident Reg Hill, whose wife Lesley informs us is in Volos hospital recovering from a broken femur after an altercation with a tree last week. Reg was attempting some tree-surgery when he slipped and fell (we will spare you the grisly details, although the words “bugger” and “silly” were used during a telephone conversation to ascertain this information, and not by us). He is expected to be in traction for at least a month, in Ward 508 on Floor 5 of the hospital, and visiting hours are lax, so if you know Reg and are in Volos, he would welcome a visit. Skopelosnews hopes to visit Volos shortly, so we will try to swing by with a bunch of grapes and a crate of Mackeson, although as Reg doesn’t drink the Mackeson will be for us. We wish him the seafarer’s blessing of fair winds and following seas – and as few trees with attitude as possible.
…and the tree won

I don’t know Reg but wish him a speedy recovery. What I want to say is what a great photo.
Ah … we will come clean and admit it’s a Wiki Commons image of an Aleppo pine in, er, the south of France, as we believe Reg’s aggressor was an Aleppo pine. We should also thank Spacebirdy/Myndir, who took the photo in Calanque de Morgiou, near Marseilles.
I do know Reg and he is a silly bugger for climbing trees and I will tell him so when I am in Volos soon. Thank goodness it wasn’t fatal – RIP Takis.
All the best Reg for a speedy recovery! Kendal, Rod and Linden in UK
Presumably Reg was attempting to carve a new head from whatever he was cutting from the tree. Goes to prove you can’t teach a daft sod new tricks. All the very best Reg and Les, speedy return, with love. Karen and Tony in Glossa
Are you referring to Mackeson Triple XXX Stout?
Recover quickly Reg!
Not sure, as I’ve never actually tried it myself. But I believe it was what Britons put crates of on the roof when they went for a charabanc outing a long time ago…
Get well soon, Reg … and Lesley, as this will probably be a rather testing time, we send our very best wishes. Unfortunately, we passed through Volos on Tuesday all unaware of your plight but let us know if you think we can help.
