At present Γιατροί του Κόσμου say they are most in need of toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and paste, pharmacy-issue [only] throat pastilles, baby cream of the Greek Germoline-type such as Fissan) for children, and also items such as gloves, scarves, blankets, trousers, shoes, raincoats and sleeping bags to keep people warm and alive. You can also, as I (john) and friends did, donate cash, which Georgia will rush to spend in the farmakia for the next batch of deliveries.
As they monitor the ongoing situation, Γιατροί του Κόσμου say they do not at present need food, although they will make an announcement if and when their needs change. Georgia welcomes donations at Gialos, which is open lunchtimes only at present, but you can also find the Greek branch of Doctors of the World at its website, and there is a growing number of other help organizations on the web. As winter sets in, this crisis is likely to worsen, but as ever our Greek neighbours have been extraordinary in their kindness. We should follow their example.
