A rather short notice in the online English version of Kathimerini reports an announcement from the Greek tourism ministry that 2016 will see the official Greek tourism season extended to nine months, from March 1 to November 30. The newly extended season will be rolled out on Crete and other more southerly islands at first, but the plan is to extend the ‘new’ season to all Greek destinations later.
This will probably come as surprising news to most airlines, and not a few hoteliers and tourism operators here as well, but you can’t blame them for trying.

Unfortunately the tourism ministry doesn’t know a great deal about tourism, so let us just Keep Calm and Carry On. Skopelos season next year starts, officially, 6 May 🙂
As we are aware, travel connections might be a problem.
I have been saying this for years The airlines need to get their act together and Tour Companies ñèed to get on board .March April is beautiful in Greece you are not in that searing heat lovely for walking.
This year we went to Turkey in October only because Skopelos for tourist was closed .We are coming 4 May next year very few hotels are open wouldn’t a longer season on all Islands make economic sense
What do the buiness think on Skopelos?
…though Portaria in the Pelion might be onto something.

A full hotel in early December in pretty good. For rest the guests took advantage of the local businesses.
IF only the season did start on 6 May. Looking for flights to Skiathos in May/June and prices for flight only extortionate at the moment and some charters don’t start until later in May. It seems to be getting harder each year to get a direct flight!
We have flights Thomas Cook 4th May 2016 ,We do are own flights transfer and accomadation
We found lots of flights Friday 6th may using sky scanner when we booked stansted was cheapest.
5 min taxi to skiathos port, a drink or lunch and get boat/cat across – the ticket offices are right behind the port so easy to arrange your own transport to Skopelos:-)
Also coming in January via Athens and the hopper which is far cheaper as out of season but need a hotel for a night too which takes some of the saving off’
The first flight I have found from Gatwick to Skiathos is actually on Easter Sunday 1st May. I’m guessing that the extension in the official tourist season is to give a fighting chance for the government to collect the extra 2 billion in taxes during 2016 as voted in parliament the other day 🙂
