The first Sunday of carnival and the boats/τράτες were out. This very old tradition that only takes place on Skopelos started around 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Five boats/τρατες were carried around the streets and squares of Skopelos. Skopelosnews found that not so many people were gathered in the streets to see the boys with their boats pass by. On the small square above Franseskos, like every year, Yorgos and Yorgia Panajotera handed out wine and sweets to everybody.

A mother’s love

Looks can be deceiving. In the above photograph you see four boys with their boat/tρατα, but the photograph Skopelosnews took a second earlier (below) also shows the mother of one of the boys, who followed her son for hours and made sure he is OK. With the smoke and fire around, you are a bit worried, not?
