The Flying Dolphin and the Flying Cat left this morning for the mainland but it is not certain whether they will return. Historically the Volos-Sporades services have often continued to run during strikes, and we note that the new Aqua Ferry’s ship Mirtidiotissa is underway from Agios Konstantinos this morning. A visit to MarineTraffic.com shows a lot of ferries still in service across the Aegean and Ionian, and we will be keeping an eye on Sporades ferries and posting what we find here. Anyone leaving or arriving between today and Tuesday is advised to consider alternatives, such as sea taxis from Skiathos; expensive, but not as expensive as four nights in Skiathos, especially if you can share with others.
Greece is probably the only country that has a website dedicated to strikes look here (in Greek only)
Update Friday 1pm: MarineTraffic.com shows Flying Cat 5 passing Trikeri en route to the Sporades, so for today at least they are flouting the strike.
And at 3pm: The Mirtidiotissa steamed into Skopelos harbour a few minutes before three, followed a few minutes later by Flying Cat 5. Both craft then set sail for Alonnisos. We will be keeping a weather eye on the sea lanes over the coming days.
