Last night, I (Daphne) and many proud parents, grand parents, brothers and sisters experienced one of the most moving music nights in a very long time watching 15 teens from the high school perform “rebetica” music. For the end of the school year a small concert was organized with the music teacher of the children. Bouzouki and guitar accompanied the wonderful voices.
At the end of the concert two beautiful teenagers, Chrissoula Komanakou and Evridiki Getska sang some really famous and difficult Greek songs. I have found one of the songs on Youtube because the real song we listened to in awe without using any of our electronic devices! Thank God for that otherwise we would have missed this experience.
The song is called Tzivaeri/Τζιβαέρι. It comes from the word “τζοβαίρι”, which means “precious stone”, “the most precious thing someone has”. A song tribute to the Greek immigrants, wherever in the world they may be..
This is the other song sung by Evridiki Getska which I videotaped.
