We have been sweeping away the tons of olives that have fallen on the terraces and not many olives remain on the trees. We are afraid that this winter, again, we will not harvest olives and bring back the “gold” that keeps our salads alive, our soups tasty and our friends from abroad soo happy.
There is an ongoing discussion about whether the olive trees should be sprayed against the “δακο” fly.
and we have seen handmade traps to catch the fly that causes all the damage.
It is difficult to understand what the general opinion is on the island. Maybe we should start attending the olive press meetings. It is a shame that we are in the process of getting a new olive press, situated between Stafylos and Agnondas, and there are no olives to press!
