Alone on a wide wide sea…

We bet you’ve never seen the HS timetable that empty
As people passing or attempting to visit the Hellenic Seaways offices in either Loutraki or Skopelos in recent days will have found, both are locked after HS peremptorily cancelled both the Flying Cat and Express Skiathos services at the end of October. Normally when services end temporarily the HS website at least has a re-start date in the new year. A visit yesterday brought up a ‘No Services’ warning for the Sporades islands. A call to the HS HQ in Piraeus was greeted warmly by an answering machine. Rumours and accusations are circulating, so we are attempting to ascertain the situation and will report again when we have some facts. Meanwhile, HS admin, ticket and port staff on all three islands find themselves suddenly unemployed, with no idea when their jobs might re-materialize. The inhabitants of the Sporades might think of sacrificing some meat – a member of HS upper management, maybe – to the goddess Athena for the continuing services of the Proteus
Update Daphne; Both Hellenic Seaways offices will remain closed at least until the New Year. Kosifis in Skopelos town told skopelosnews that he hopes that his office will open again in January 2017 and the boats will start sailing again.
