Tuesday the 1st of May boat connections are interupted because the Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) has declared a 24 hours strike begiining on the first of May. Please get in touch with your boat ticket office for more info.

The Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) is striking because they want better working conditions for seamen/women, a clearer/better pension system, more support against unemployment and payment of salaries that were not paid out yet.

Improving our paths and kalderimia: Hiking trip and volunteering at our
forgotten villages of old Klima and Mahala

Saturday, 28 April 2018, 10:30 am – 2:00 pm

10:30 am – Everyone meets at old (upper) Klima by main car road.
Father Kallianos will guide us as we begin our exploration of upper Klima and continue to the church Agio Anargyroi aτ lower Klima.

11:00 arrive Agio Anargyroi – here we take a short brake for a refreshing drink and have our snacks, the view from this spot is incredible. Father Kallianos talks to us about lower Klima and the village church. Tom shows baptismal and parents wedding photos of area in the 1940’s amd 50’s.
Point out path that leads to Katakalou and Loutraki.

11:20 am – continue on the path to Mahala passing next to the ground fault created by the catastrophic earth quake of 1965 along the way identifying plants, flowers and trees (see Dr. Sue Warren’s blog
http://wildflowersofskopelos.org.uk/Blog.html ) clearing parts of the path, and enjoying the

12:40 noon – continue and arrive at Neraki (water spring) Mahala.
We’ll be greeted by a people few who have homes here Despina, Kostas, Maggie, Tom.
We’ll be offered refreshments and a traditional treat, rest and have a short conversation with them about life in Mahala and clear brush around the water spring villagers came to for their water.

13:40 – continue on to Glossa. This is the final leg of our hike about 5 – 10 minutes.
13.50 – arrive Glossa
14:10 – 14:20 -buses depart for Loutraki, Neo Klima and Skopelos

Appropriate clothes and more: bring plenty of drinking water and a snack, walking
stick, wear long sleeves, no open or high heel shoes, hats, gloves, pruning scissors small and large, hand saw.

Free examinations

The municipality of Skopelos and it’s health center work together with the health region of Thessalia to give free examinations to citizens. Skopelosnews has asked if foreigners can make an appointment and they can, vice mayor Athina Daki assured me.

The following examinations will be available; Mammograms, osteoporosis measurements and respiratory test. On Monday the 7th of May until Thursday the 10th of May they will be in Skopelos (area health center) and from Thursday afternoon until Saturday the 12th they will be in Glossa (near school)
