A group of people based in the Pelion wanted to encourage easyJet to start scheduled flights to Volos from the UK all year round. By flying to Volos an effort could be made to expand the tourist season in this whole area, including the Sporades. A Facebook page received over 6000 likes and the group tried to communicate with easyJet about their plans. Yesterday one of the group members received this message:
Dear Mr Farmakidis
Thank you for taking your time to write to Carolyn. She has asked me to look into the matter and respond on her behalf.
Thank you for your suggestion of a new connection to Volos. This has been passed to our Scheduling Department for future reference. For this moment, we have no plans to serve Volos in the near future. We are about to put Summer 2015 on sale, and Volos will not feature in the schedule.
Best regards
Aleksandra

The group will find other companies and try to convince them to fly to Volos all year round. Aegean is one of them.
It’s great to see a picture of Volos airport – I’ve been there many times enroute to/from Skopelos but never further than the apron/terminal building 🙂
Having reached my ‘grump-age’, I will grump when I feel like it!
Alastair – I believe that no one is forcing you to read SkopelosNews. If the contents of SkopelosNews irritate you so, I can think of one solution – but I won’t let on so as not to “educate” you. You can figure it out.
We published the first mention of this movement in April.
Somewhere in the linked article is a reference to the Sporades.
Can’t say I see any of this from parsing Tom’s comments about the flights to and from Volos.
I am surprised, however, that the Pelion folks appeared to have left out the fact that Volos could be a vital flight connection to a little-known archipelago quite nearby…
You seem to have a desire to educate we, the thick peasants. Some of us, either peasants or not, somewhat seem to resent your attempts to educate us.
What are you talking about Alastair, the post or my comment?
Stating the obvious again? Stick to the Wikipedia references! Most of us know how to use the web/internet.
I’d like to see the contents of the letter to Carolyn.
People could book to Skiathos and then take the seaplane to Volos.
They should, if they yet haven’t, talk to Kostas Agorastos the regional administrator of Thessaly. Some political backing might help.
Any airline would have to do a feasibility study to see if it makes economic sense to fly to Volos (and year round ?). That would take some time.
