On the whole island in many places along the roads, new road railings have been placed. A safer road network is the result. At the same time, next to the road, trees, bushes and road obstacles have been cleared to make is safer against fires and other natural disasters. A lot of the natural material has been shredded.

The familiar kiosk opposite Molos restaurant/the old Platanos Jazz bar/ Kiratsos restaurant and ta Kymata restaurant has been demolished. Slowly slowly these familiar kiosks will disappear from the Greek streets. When a lease is up it will not be renewed. It is a shame really. The owners of the kiosk have moved across the street. They have a mini market now and coffeeshop called Puesto.

It is possible to stay up to date with what the municipality is doing. If you are on Facebook you can read the messages from the mayor about basically everything. Google translate will help you. Please look up Σταματης Περισσης.

The message below contains explanations about rumours on the island:

1) The land registry office on Skopelos is going to close and we need to go to Skiathos for research and requests for papers. The municipality would like the office to stay here but this decision is an effort to centralize these kind of offices and in the future everything will be digitalized and no need for in person visits. It is the law and it will be moved they say.
2) The court of Skopelos should not be moved to Volos states the municipality and after contact with the lawyers union it is very probable that the court of Skopelos will becomes a regional office of the court of Volos with additional responsibilities and more court cases.
3) On the road to Agios Reginos is a waste dump area where bigger pieces of waste, building materials, household items are dumped. Many years now this waste is being burned but it is harmful for the environment so the mayor together with the co mayor responsible for waste have decided that this waste will be shredded in the future and then brought to the bigger waste area.

The mayor and various council members, the next couple of weeks, will be in contact with ministries and boat companies to try and get a morning boat sailing to Volos and a weekly boat going to and from Mantoudis. As you probably know the boat companies decide themselves whether it financially viable to do this and a lot depends on grants supplied by the central government.

A couple of skies from the last few months.
