Secret chefs spy on Skopelos

Not our finest moment, but it was shot on the hoof in lunch circumstances…

A small posse of freelance Skopelosnews troublemakers was loitering outside seafront eaterie Gialos yesterday when they noticed a one-man film crew arrive and start filming the restaurant and staff. Discreet enquiries elicited the information that he was from Cosmopolis TV, an independent production company that supplies content to the likes of the Star channel. Cosmopolis sent a group of Greek chefs undercover to Skopelos earlier this year to spy on island restaurants, and Gialos is one of four who will be given an award for excellence on an upcoming Greek food show. Our own spies suggest the others are Perivoli, Kyratso’s kuzina and Michalis’s pie shop. Gialos was just the bearded hipster’s first stop. And given the continuing, er, ambiguity about who exactly is herding whom towards favoured restaurants, and why, a little democratization in the promotion of places to eat can’t be a bad thing. Share it around, folks.
