Although its founder members have been working independently for some time to improve animal care on Skopelos, the Stray Care Skopelos group has begun a series of initiatives to establish a new animal care charity on Skopelos, working with cats, dogs and other animals. It is holding a fundraising coffee event at Barramares at noon today, with homemade cake and a coffee in return for a five euro donation. The group, a largely Greek enterprise, recently hosted two representatives of the Panhellenic Animal Welfare and Environmental Federation, who met with the mayor and also the chief of police to discuss municipal responsibilities for animal care. The PAWEF representatives also gave a talk on animal care to students at the primary school, with the backing of the ministry of education. The Federation is helping Stray Care Skopelos in its efforts to found the new charity, and you can contact SCS either via their Facebook page, Stray Care Skopelos, or by phoning Natasha on 694 9521442.
